about
Just having incarnated as a band under a Halloween moon, 'Ouija Boy' was one of the first songs in our original set. In the spirit of being spooky, we wanted to write a song centering around one of our favorite ghost accessories: the ouija board. What arrived however was a sweet tender story of a young ghost who falls in love with a living boy.
The ghost nicknames their living crush as their “ouija boy” and they can only talk one letter at a time through the ouija board. We are intentional about not gendering the ghost by the way: the ghost is open to be whatever gender you would like!
The idea was inspired by a ghost story MJ read once of a poet in the late 1800s who claimed her poems came from a ghost who she would transcribe for, one letter at a time. What a cute idea right? And it ended up being a really cute song.
lyrics
Lyrics:
I think I wanna talk to you
I think you wanna talk to me too
Should I give one knock or two?
I want to reach from the other side to you
I want to be the ghost that loves you
I want to haunt you all night and day
Is this what they call unfinished business
I don’t want to pass on without you
I don’t want to pass on without you
I don’t want to pass on without you
Oh ouija boy, oh ouija boy
Oh ouija boy, oh ouija boy
Oh ouija boy, oh ouija boy
Oh ouija boy, oh ouija boy
I hope you’ll know what I mean
When I spell the letters “I” “L” “O” “V” “U”
And I’m hoping you’ll be mine
And I’d be yours from the other side
I want to be the ghost that loves you
I want to haunt you all night and day
Is this what they call unfinished business
I don’t want to pass on without you
I don’t want to pass on without you
I don’t want to pass on without you
Oh ouija boy, oh ouija boy
Oh ouija boy, oh ouija boy
Bring us closer one little letter at a time
ABCD we’ll rest together side by side
Bring us closer one little letter at a time
ABCD we’ll rest together side by side
Oh ouija boy, oh ouija boy
Oh ouija boy, oh ouija boy
Oh ouija boy, oh ouija boy
Oh ouija boy, oh ouija boy
